Road to Nowhere: Experimental Layout

Layout Design | Type & Image | Photography | Story Telling

Have you ever embarked on a journey to nowhere? Have you ever gotten in your car and started driving, or simply started walking with no destination in mind? This was the idea behind "Road to Nowhere". To journey into the wild and document your findings. This experimental art piece documents the emotional and physical findings of such a trip through type and image.

The destination of this trip was the Buffalo Central Terminal, an old non-operational train station. It was once a bustling place full of life and activity, but upon arriving at its front door on a chilly Sunday morning, all I felt was silence and emptiness. Although there is a rich history to the building, it seemed as though it had all been lost. Broken windows and crumbling bricks were now home to hundreds of pigeons, offering the only break of silence but for the occasional passing train that whistled its goodbye as it rode past with no intent of stopping. The building had lost it's purpose.

The booklet is meant to be en excerpt of my experience with the building. Shedding light on the thoughts and feelings I experienced there, through photography and story telling. The colors used we're pulled from the photographs of rust and decay, and the backgrounds of building blueprints, maps, and old train tickets offer an insight into the nostalgia evoked by the building's rich past.
